WINTERS, James

Hassayampa Miner (Wickenburg AZ) Thursday, April 13, 1916, p 5:3 Hon. P. S. Wrenn, superintendent of the Pioneers' Home, at Prescott, came down Saturday night, and returned Sunday morning. Mr. Wrenn spent a number of years at Constellation, and has a large circle of friends here, who bade him welcome. Through Mr. Wrenn's visit it became known that "Uncle" Jimmy Winters, one of the best-known old-timers in the State, died at the "Home" in December. Mr. Winters was a well-known character in this section, and up to a few years ago he and his burro, Caruso, were familiar sights to the denizens of the hills, as he persisted in following his chosen vocation of prospecting until past eighty years of age. Though he died poor, Uncle Jimmy had made much money in his time, and it is said that the most of his gains were distributed among the children of Los Angeles and the other cities where he chose to spend his days of affluence. Quiet and unobtrusive in life, so he slipped out over the great divide, so quietly that Mr. Wrenn's visit brought the first news of his passing.
