(Thomas) Cothrun, 91, died Monday, April 27, 2015 at her home in Central Heights. She was born in Fullerton, California on Nov. 29, 1923, Thanksgiving Day, the first child of Lester R. and Mary Magdalene Thomas. The Thomas’ returned to Arkansas in their Model T Ford shortly thereafter and welcomed Harold, Edna, Kathleen, and Wilma Ruth to their family, moving frequently until they settled in the Wagoner, Oklahoma area. Nadine graduated from Hulbert High School in Hulbert, Oklahoma in 1943 and moved to Washington, D.C. in August of that year to take a job at the Federal Bureau of Investigation as a fingerprint classification specialist. While in DC she served as a USO volunteer. On Dec. 1, 1945, Nadine married Milton J. Cothrun in Garden Grove, California. The young couple made several moves before finally making their home in the Globe-Miami area in 1951, where they raised their five children. Nadine was the quintessential homemaker. She loved to cook and especially liked cooking on holidays, making special treats for her family. She also enjoyed crocheting, reading, and cheering on the Arizona Wildcats. Nadine believed strongly in serving the community and served as a Brownie and Girl Scout leader, homeroom mother, Little League and Babe Ruth Auxiliary officer, and election official. She spent six years as a volunteer in the Kindergarten classroom at Central Heights Elementary School helping neighborhood students learn. A beloved and devoted mother, Nadine is survived by daughters, Peggy Beutler (Jim Beutler) of Phoenix and Mary Denton (Gary Denton) of Central Heights; sons, Mike Cothrun of Tucson, Keith Cothrun (Andrew Toth) of Medford, N.J., and Randy Cothrun (Christie Rambin) of Richardson, Texas; sister, Edna Tyree of Fayetteville, Georgia; 12 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Milton in 2002. Services honoring Nadine Cothrun were held on Saturday, May 2, 2015 at 11 a.m. at Bulman Miles Funeral Home in Globe, Ariz.
