The White Mountain Independent, Show Low, Arizona ~ 05/22/2015 Inez LaVerne Slade, 90, was called home to her Heavenly Father, Monday, May 18, 2015. She was born Sept. 20, 1924, in Nutrioso, the daughter of Marion and Ella Maxwell Lee, the fifth child and second daughter of eight children. Inez loved roaming the hills of Nutrioso and making memories with her siblings. She gained her education in Round Valley, where she soon met her sweetheart, E. Kay Slade. They were married Aug. 11, 1943, the day before Kay went off to World War II. After Kay returned home from the war, they were sealed in the Mesa Temple for time and all eternity. Life quickly progressed for her as a wife and mother of five. She created a beautiful home of love and learning, being a gentle teacher of the gospel of Jesus Christ, both in her home and in her religion. She is an eternal example of service to others, touching countless lives with her love, compassion, laughter and gentleness. She quickly became known as the “Jello Lady” for the many gelatin salads she took to the sick and needy throughout her life. LaVerne enjoyed 35 years as a postal clerk in the Eagar Post Office, touching countless with her smile and laughter. She not only enjoyed being a wife and mother, but even more enjoyed being a “Granny” to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Some of her many enjoyments in life were cooking, canning, crocheting, quilting, reading, watching the beavers and elk and attending the temple. She is survived by her sweetheart of 72 years, E. Kay Slade; children Errol Keith Slade, Kaynetta Lynn Slade, Peggy Lou Reid, Leon Jess Slade and Robin Lee Lamoreaux; 16 grandchildren; 42 great grandchildren; and sisters Gwen Hillman and IdaMae Jones. LaVerne taught of the Savior, Jesus Christ, and His Gospel throughout her beautiful life. She served seven missions for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, May 25, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Eagar Stake Center, with visitation one hour prior.
