EDWARDS, Vandice (Chaney)


The White Mountain Independent, Show Low, Arizona ~ 05/22/2015 Vandice “Chaney” Edwards entered eternal rest May 18, 2015, in Whiteriver, surrounded by loved ones. He was born July 31, 1953, to Daniel and Mary Edwards. Vandice grew up in the Seven Mile community and finished high school at Phoenix Indian. Later he moved to Long Beach, Calif., and lived there for several years. Upon returning to Whiteriver, he worked for the Fort Apache Timber Co. for 25 years. Vandice was an avid horse shoe thrower and was known as “Lord of the Rings.” Everyone was a great fan of his guitar playing. He will be missed very much by all his family and friends. He is survived by his daughters, Kristal Van Edwards and Shanna Ali Edwards; son Kai-Shan A. Edwards; grandsons Nehko Edwards and Cario Kaleb D. Johnson; wife Matillda (Riley) Edwards; five brothers; a sister of Sacramento, Calif.; one aunt, Anita Cheney; and a great-grand-daughter. Vandice was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel and Mary Edwards, and brother Edwin Tex Edwards. He will be brought home for a two-night wake starting at 10 a.m. Friday, May 22, at 2126 John Moore Dr. in Seven Mile. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 23, at the same location. Silver Creek Mortuary of Whiteriver handled arrangements.
