Amber Lyn (Shumard) Sutterby, 45, went into eternal life April 28, 2015, due to complications of liver disease from Hepatitis C. She was born Oct. 26, 1969, in Las Cruces, N.M., to Elizabeth (White) (Shumard) Thayer and George E. Shumard.
Amber lived primarily in the Phoenix Valley from two years of age until age 43. Due to her illness, she moved to Springerville to be closer to her parents, Ronald L. Thayer and Elizabeth C. Thayer.
Until becoming ill, Amber worked for JW Marriott Resorts for 13 years in Phoenix and Tucson as a restaurant manager. At Starr Pass in Tucson she was one of the team that created the first barbecue restaurant in a JW Marriott Resort. She was also honored to be chosen to work for Marriott in Salt Lake City, Utah, during the Winter Olympics.
Amber is survived by her son, Nicholas; mother Elizabeth Thayer and father Ronald Thayer; her father George (Dennie) Shumard; brothers Charles Shumard and Roger (Dorothy) Thayer; aunts Jan White, Joan White, Martha (Ron) Baker and Jean (Wayne) Ross; uncles Kermit Shumard and Dwight Thayer (Belinda); nephews Colton Thayer and Dalton Thayer; cousins Jon Eric Shumard, Ben White, Aletha White and Amanda White.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Doris and Al White, George and Juhree Shumard; uncles Bob White, Ed White, Jon T. Shumard, and Bob Thayer and aunt Kathlyn White.
A family viewing was held in Mesa and memorial services were held Saturday, May 16, at the Springerville Community Presbyterian Church.
The family and friends will have a ceremony to spread Amber’s ashes at her favorite mountain lookout in the near future.
