Silver Creek Mortuary, Taylor, Arizona Kathaleen Emily Ames (May 16, 1931 - May 26, 2015) Kathaleen Emily (Amey) Ames, 84, passed away and went to be with her Lord, husband, brother and sister on May 26, 2015. She passed away comfortably in her home in Vernon, Arizona from natural causes and was lovingly cared for in her last years by her son, Arric Hutchinson. Kathy was born on May 16, 1931 and grew up in Pittsburg, New Hampshire in the Indian Stream Valley. She spent her early years growing up on the Amey farm with her father Holman J. Amey, mother Mary H. Somers Amey and her siblings Alfred Amey, Maudetta Amey Taylor and Nancy Amey Ouelette. She was married to David Earl Ames in 1954 in Washington D.C. and subsequently raised their family in Westminster, CA. She went to school in a one-room school house on Tabor Road in Pittsburg, N.H. In 1999 she attended the Pittsburg Alumni’s 50th Reunion. She also attended the University of New Hampshire. She worked as a civil servant in the ship yards of Washington D.C., San Diego, CA, Seal Beach, CA and also at the White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico and finished up her retirement in Sierra Vista, AZ. She was part owner of Ames Construction in Lake Havasu City, AZ where she was involved in the interior design of custom homes and subsequently selling homes. Her many activities included involvement in the Westminster and West Garden Grove women’s clubs where she served terms as president and treasurer. Various classes she took were yoga, cake decorating, candle making and shorthand. She was also involved with the Lake Havasu City welcoming committee in Lake Havasu City, AZ and in the Red Hat Society in Show Low, AZ. She was well known for her apple pies and always being teased by her husband David about the amount of cinnamon; it was always too much or not enough. She was a wonderful cake decorator, so much that her children refused to eat them because they were so dang cute. Their favorite was the New Year’s Eve cake with pink elephants passed out on top of the cake in martini glasses and draping over the sides. Her various flavors of fudge were always looked forward to and melted in your mouth. She is survived by her children Amy Mandarino of Mission Viejo, CA and Arric Hutchinson of Vernon, AZ, her son-in-law Peter M. Mandarino, her grandchildren Robert Mandarino and Crystal Mandarino and her siblings Maudetta Amey Taylor, John Amey, Roy Amey, Mark Amey, Dottie-Jane Amey Lee and Paul Amey. Her favorite dogs were Schnauzers named Juliette and Daisy May, whom she loved very much. The memorial service will be held at a later date in Westminster, CA at Westminster Memorial with friends and immediate family.
