April L. (Wilber) Hackathorn passed away peacefully at home in Prescott, Arizona on May 29, 2015, after gracefully accepting the challenges of ALS. She was born in Kansas City, Kansas in 1947 to Albert and Barbara Wilber.
She graduated from Wyandotte High School and attended Park College where she met and married her husband of 47 years, David Hackathorn. While raising her family, April returned to college, earning a B.A. in journalism from the University of Kansas and launched her 20-year career as a freelance copy editor.
April was a lifelong volunteer - working to improve adult literacy, quality of life for seniors, and public library services in the many communities in which she lived. April will be remembered for her generous heart and positive spirit. April devoted herself to loving and supporting David; her two sons, Nate and Casey; daughter-in-law, Tina; and grandson Ian.
April will be missed by all of her family and the many friends she made easily across the entire arc of her life. She embraced Prescott and enjoyed retirement living surrounded by the flowers she tended, the books she collected, the pets she adored and the husband she loved. She had a passion for music and she loved to dance.
A Celebration of Life will be at 11 a.m. on June 12, 2105, at the Petroglyph Interpretive Site at the top of the Petroglyph Trail in Prescott Lakes.
A reception will follow from noon to 3 p.m. at the Prescott Lakes Clubhouse. All of her friends and family are invited to attend.
In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to The ALS Association Arizona Chapter. No doubt, the world is forever brighter and kinder after touched by April's compassionate spirit.
