The Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona, Wednesday, June 03, 2015 Tony Abdill, 60, ended his long battle with cancer on May 24, 2015, in the home he shared with his girlfriend of 18 years, Barbara Indra by his side. Tony was born in McMinnville, Oregon. His father Lyle Abdill was a career Army soldier and his mother Lillo Abdill was a German war bride. Both preceded him in death. Tony was an "Army brat" who moved frequently, so he had to learn to make friends fast. He lived in Oregon, Germany and Georgia. His father finally retired from the military at Fort Ord and the family settled in Salinas, California. Tony graduated from North Salinas High School. Tony was always a hard worker. He began working at Lucky Stores (later became Albertsons) at 16 as a bag boy. He then worked the night shift until his retirement at age 51. He liked that shift because it gave him more time with his children, Alyssa and Andrew Abdill. His great love was auto mechanics - specifically working on '57 Chevys. He met his girlfriend, who also had a '57 Chevy, at a car show in California. His second Chevy was a project car, which he finally started to work on in 2013. After his cancer diagnosis, work slowed down. Then a group of his "car buddies" volunteered to finish the project in hopes of him driving it one day. The upholstery was finished two days before his death. The friends will still finish the car for him. Tony also loved traveling in his RV and was a member of the Yavapai Roadrunners RV Club. He loved nature and hiking. In his earlier years, he loved backpacking, especially in the Sierras. Tony also was an avid deer hunter until he moved to Prescott in 2007. Tony was a giving person who was always the first person to lend a hand. He was known in the neighborhood as the "Plow Angel" because every single snowfall, he would be out before light to plow driveways. He was upbeat, fun loving, happy and positive, even during his battle with cancer. He is survived by his girlfriend of 18 years, Barbara Indra; his two children Alyssa and Andrew Abdill; and the many people who loved him. There are no services, although there will be a private memorial later in the summer. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Canyon River Community Hospice in Tony's name.
