James B. Johnson Sr.
(February 11, 1948 - June 6, 2015)
James B. Johnson Sr. went to be with the lord peacefully on June 6, 2015 in Phoenix, AZ at Ryan Home Hospice. Jimmy was born February 11, 1948 to Joseph and Winnie Johnson Sr.
He married Verna L. Patten from San Carlos. He worked as an education teacher for the WMAT Ft. McDowell-Yavapai Nations. Jimmy was a Blues and Rock Musician with many different bands.
He was a well known Native American artist with paintings in the Smithsonian Institute. He had a BA in education and a MA in fine arts. Jimmy had a great sense of humor and always enjoyed conversing with a variety of friends, relatives and family members. He will be missed deeply. Jimmy was an Army Private Veteran in the Vietnam era from 1969-1970.
Jimmy is survived by his son: James B. Johnson Jr. (Pogo) and his daughter: Rebecca R. Johnson (Becky).
He is preceded in death by parents: Joseph and Winnie Johnson; brother: Joseph Johnson Jr. (Joe-Joe); sisters: Patricia, Cynthia, Sonja, Debbie and Linda Johnson.
A funeral service for Jimmy will be held Monday, June 15, 2015 at 10:00am at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in McNary, AZ.
Interment will follow the service at the McNary Cemetery where a brief viewing will also happen.
