His Last Roll Call
The ranks of the old veterans are thinning out very rapidly. Another one has answered his last roll call and today Joined the great majority, being Fritz Jenssen. Deceased was 69 years old and cam to Prescott in 1875 with CO. K., twelfth infantry, U.S. A., having served all through the civil war, having resided here ever since.
He retired from business about five or six years ago and has been quite feeble ever since although he was able to be around and was cheerful and good spirited. He officiated on Saturday as clerk of the election for the high school and was around town yesterday in his usual good health, joking with friends.
He lived with his son Fred W. Jessen on Granite street just north of Gurley and remained about the house most of the time. He was at home as usual this morning and a painter named Robinson was engaged in painting the house. About 9 o'clock the latter went into the house to hang up his coat and discovered Mr. Jessen lying unconscious in a pool of blood, with blood pouring from his mouth, ears and nose. He immediately notified the son, Fred, who drives a wagon for H. Voge, and a physician was summoned but he was beyond human aid and died about 11 o'clock without recovering consciousness.
It is supposed that an artery in the head had been ruptured, causing death. The remains were taken to Logan's undertaking parlors to be prepared for burial.
Deceased from his long residence in Prescott had made a great many friends, who will be pained to hear of his death. He was a good citizen in every sense of the word, and during his business career, was always progressive, and enterprising, taking a natural pride in the progress of the town.
In addition to the son mentioned above, another boy, Charles Jessen survives him. He is working at the Iron King mine and has been notified of his father's death.
The funeral will take place tomorrow afternoon at 3 o'clock from Logan's undertaking parlors, to which all friends and acquaintances are invited.

Arizona Happenings -
Fritz Jessen, one of the older residents of this city, died this morning at 11 o'clock at his home on North Granite street, after a brief illness.
Deceased was a native of Germany, but had been a resident of Prescott for the past twenty years. He served with distinction during the war of the rebellion, and was a member of the local G.A.R., under whose auspices the funeral will be held. Shortly after settling in this city he embarked in the saloon business. Closing out business about seven years ago, he has since lived a retired life. He has been in failing health for a number of years past, in fact, ever since the death of his wife, six years ago, he has not been in the best of health. - Prescott Herald
