Union-Times (San Diego CA) Sunday, February 1, 2015 Irma Harritt Corwin 09/05/1918 ~ 01/23/2015 Long-time San Diego resident Irma Harritt Corwin, age 96, died peacefully on January 23 in Salinas, where she had lived for the past five years. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 54 years, Edward H. Corwin, MD; her mother Myrtle Shivers Harritt Vaughan; her stepfather, Edward Vaughan, and her sister, Evelyn Harritt. Irma was born in Wickenburg, Arizona and moved to San Diego in 1919. She graduated from San Diego High School and San Diego State, where she first met her future husband. In addition to being a wife and mother, she taught school for many years and was an accomplished pianist in her youth. She was an active member of the Mission Hills Congregational Church. She is survived by daughters, Shirley Sorci (Tony) of Monterey, Joan Potter Wood (Parker) of Salinas, and Kristin Collins (Michael) of Berkeley; three grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Irma loved her home and life in San Diego, which she happily shared with neighbors, friends, family, and the occasional stray cat. At her request there will be no services. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the SPCA in her memory.
