The White Mountain Independent, Show Low, Arizona ~ 06/23/2015 George J. Jones, 90, formerly of Erin, N.Y., died May 24, 2015, of natural causes in Benson. He was born March 30, 1925, in Spencer, N.Y., to the late Fred L. and Lula (Bixby) Jones. George retired in Lakeside in 1988 and moved to Benson in 2003. He was a graduate of Breesport High School, Breesport, N.Y. He married his wife, Sarah (Elston) Jones on May 10, 1947, in the Breesport Baptist Church. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He retired from Dalrymple Gravel and Contracting in August 1986 as an equipment operator with 30 years of service. He is survived by his brother, Edward (Margaret) Jones of Athens, Pa.; wife Sarah (Elston) Jones; their children, Dovie (Gerry) Carpenter of Pearce, George (Marilou) Jones of Knoxville, Tenn., Jerry (Jeanne) Jones of Lawrenceville, Pa., and William (Carol) Jones of Tucson; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Charles (Bill) Jones, and sister Edna (Jones) Ervay. Burial will be held in Scotchtown Cemetery in Erin, N.Y., at the convenience of the family.
