MATZ, Peter Jon


The White Mountain Independent, Show Low, Arizona ~ 06/26/2015 Peter Jon Matz, 68, of Saint Germain, Wis., died Friday, June 19, 2015. He was born March 13, 1947, in Savanna, Ill., the son of Leonard and Ruby Matz. Peter married Ann Cecile Worthing April 8, 1989. They shared 26 years of marriage together. He graduated from Rockford East High School and the University of Montana. Peter taught for the U.S. Department of Interior, Bureau of Indian Affairs for many years, as well as managed the Pinetop Lakes Association. He was a member of the Lions Club, Pinetop Volunteer Fire Department, Pinetop Sanitary District and Ponderosa Water District. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and loved all things outdoors. He was also an active member of Shepherd of the Lakes Lutheran Church and Church Firewood Ministry. Peter was a loving husband, father, grandfather, son and brother. He is survived by his wife, mother and four daughters, Rachel (James) Culp, Ellyn (Erik) Wehler, Sarah Matz and Holly (Jimmy) Pettersson; grandchildren Peyton, Kayden, Leo and Logan; siblings Leonard L. (Marilyn) Matz;, Dennis M. (Ann) Matz, Eric K. (Betsy) Matz and Timothy P. (Ellen) Matz; along with many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 26, at the Shepherd of the Lakes Lutheran Church, 2903 STH 155, Sayner, Wis. Visitation will be held one hour prior at the church. Burial will be at St. Germain Cemetery. Memorial donations, in lieu of flowers, may be made to the Shepherd of the Lakes Lutheran Church. Online condolences may be shared at www.nimsgernfuneral.com.
