The White Mountain Independent, Show Low, Arizona ~ 07/10/2015 Anamencia Ethelbah Tortice, 69, also known as Ana of Hon Dah, died Wednesday, July 1, 2015, in Whiteriver, surrounded by family. She was born April 1, 1946, to Thomas and Cecelia Ivins Ethelbah. Ana married Thomas Tortice and together they had nine children, three boys and six girls. Ana is survived by her six daughters, Carol George of Northfork, Wreatha, Queenie, Gerry, Dawn Tortice and Valencia (Norbert) Nelson; six grandchildren she helped raise, Lauren F. Miller, Tyler Tortice, Kyle Nelson, Ryan Nelson, Javien Rogers and Cheryl Gordon, all from Hon Dah; three stepchildren, Chuck (Virgie) Tortice, Lynn Jackson and Doreen Numkena; three sisters:, Abeita Cromwell, Esther Wycliffe and Jolene (Gibson) Cheney; brother Nelson (Gretchen) Ethelbah; 23 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; Jacquelina Williams of Linden, whom she also thought of as a daughter; her best friend, Mary Ann Sedillo; special niece, Nee Nee Tortice, who always traveled from Utah just to visit her auntie. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Tortice; three sons, Ortiz, Orem and Ty Tortice; stepdaughter Beverlyn T. Williams; parents Thomas Ethelbah and Cecelia Ivins Ethelbah; and brother Marvin Ethelbah. A celebration of life service was held in her honor Monday, July 6, at her residence in Hon Dah. Silver Creek Mortuary of Pinetop handled arrangements.
