A.J. Kent Goes Beyond
Andrew J. (sic: Alex J.) Kent, one of Wickenburg's best known citizens, died at a hospital in Phoenix, Sunday morning, February 4, 1917. Mr. Kent suffered a fall from a ladder the latter part of last June, in which both his legs were broken, and, while the bones knit successfully, complications due to his advanced age set in, and he never recovered sufficiently to get out. It was deemed advisable that he be taken to the hospital in Phoenix for treatment, which was done on the night of the 29th. Mrs. Kent visited him on Thursday, and, seeing his condition, which was rapidly growing worse, came home to make arrangements for staying with him, but was recalled Saturday, and was with him at the end.
Mr. Kent was born in Patterson, New Jersey, May 6, 1843, and in his early life came West and entered the mining business, which he has followed most of the time since, though the States of California, Utah, Nevada, Colorado and New Mexico, coming to Arizona in 1892, and having made his home in Wickenburg, where he was a property owner, for the past fifteen years. Ever since his coming to this place Mr. Kent has owned mining property in the vicinity, and at the time of his death had several mining claims about ten miles south of town, near the river.
He is survived by his wife and one daughter, Miss Katherine Kent, of Los Angeles, both of whom were with him at the end. He was both a Mason and an Odd Fellow, and had been a very active member of the Hassayampa Masonic Association.
Private funeral services were held in Phoenix, Tuesday, after which the body was taken to Los Angeles for interment.
