Frances (Marie) Mayer was born in Washington, Iowa, on May 19, 1926, to Francis and Elizabeth Wright. She married Ted Mayer Nov. 1, 1944. While still living in Iowa they had two children, Barbara and Phillip.
The family moved to Colorado in 1958 and settled in Broomfield, where they welcomed daughter Robin into the family.
Marie and Ted were charter members of the United Presbyterian Church in Broomfield, where they volunteered and served.
Marie published the “New Wine” newsletter for many years. She volunteered for FISH, and at the Bal Swan Center. Marie was a homemaker until her children were older, then she started working for Storage Technology as a quality engineer.
She was a voracious reader and loved to garden and sew. She pursued her passion and became very involved in the Colorado Archeology Society and served as president of the Denver Chapter. For 20 years she traveled the southwest to various dig sites from Chaco Canyon in New Mexico to more local Colorado sites. Marie and Ted started wintering in Wickenburg in 1987 and later moved to the area permanently. She continued her archeology pursuit by writing scientific papers and researching archeological sites.
She volunteered locally at the Hassayampa River Preserve and worked an archeological site located there.
Marie moved back to Colorado in 2009 to be closer to her children and grandchildren. She passed away June 29, in her home in Northglenn, Colo.
Marie was preceded in death by her parents; her brother Roger (Pete) Wright from Iowa; Ted Mayer – her husband of 55 years; her son Phillip; son-in-law Robert Eatmon; and her dear brothers-in-law Lester Mayer, Roger Mayer, Bill VanSickle and Ken Havel.
She is survived by her sisters Marjorie VanSickle (Iowa); Holly Wold (Iowa/Arizona); and brothers Dave Wright (Iowa) and Richard Wright (Nevada); her daughter Barbara Eatmon (Colorado); and her children Mitch and his daughter Amanda; Clint and his wife Dedrie and children Katelynn and Spencer; Channing Reese and her husband Chris and son Jake; daughter Robin Nettesheim (Colorado) and husband Jim, and their children Adam and his wife Sarah, and their children Graycen and Adarah, and Thomas and his wife Stacie; daughter-in-law Carmen Mayer (Phillip-deceased) and their son Derek and his daughter Abigail; six lovely sisters-in-law and many precious nieces and nephews.
Though she will be dearly missed, the family is comforted by the fact she is in God’s hands now and will always be a presence in their hearts.
The family would like to express deep gratitude to Northglenn Heights Assisted Living Facility and Compassionate Care Hospice for their wonderful care and support during Marie’s last few months. Condolences can be sent to Robin Nettesheim, P.O. Box 1685, Loveland, CO 80539, or at www.Rundus.com.
The family will be having a private memorial. Marie will be interred in the historic Lakeview Cemetery in Broomfield. Memorial contributions can be made to the Nature Conservancy Hassayampa River Preserve in Wickenburg, Ariz., 49614 U.S. Highway 60/89, Wickenburg, AZ 85390.
