In September 1936, at the age of 16, Louise was crowned in a coronation ceremony as “Queen of the Watermelon Festival” in the Havana, Ill. county fair. From her youth she proved to be a very talented seamstress, as well. Throughout her lifetime Louise's fashion sense was superb; she was always impeccably dressed. She also loved a beautiful yard and had a green thumb with every plant and flower she touched.
Louise also loved to dance. At the age of 17, she was a passionate, self-taught tap dancer who taught a weekly tap class to young students. Her love for dancing continued throughout her life; she was born with dancing feet, and a love for music. In her childhood she sang solos in her family church in Havana, Ill.

Louise had a great sense of humor, was caring, charitable, warmhearted, charming and extremely creative and artistic. In her later years Louise also enjoyed stamping, card making, and designing and crafting jewelry. At the age of 94, her beautiful jewelry earned three first place ribbons, and one second place ribbon in the 2014 Gila County Fair. Louise was extremely proud of those accomplishments.
