The White Mountain Independent, Show Low, Arizona ~ 07/24/2015 Wilma Jane Caruth died July 19, 2015, in Lakeside with her loved ones around her. She was born June 21, 1927, to Fred and Laura Knapp in a farmhouse outside Bristow, Iowa. Wilma was a wonderful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend to many. She loved dancing, bowling and family gatherings. Her tacos are now made by her children and grandchildren. “Jane’s homemade ice cream we enjoyed at all our birthdays and celebrations growing up. I think it is world famous!” She worked a number of years at Motorola and many different family businesses. One of her final positions was working at the Westerner Club for Western Savings in Mesa. She was predeceased by her son, David; grandson Wesley Gabel; ex-husband Big Bill Caruth; and Ray Hancock, her longtime companion. She is survived by her children, Jackie (Brad) Baker, Joelyn Davis, Jeri (Tom) Webb, Bret (Lisa) Caruth, Kinsey (Suzy) Caruth, Jeanette (Gary) Understiller and Michael (Arleen) Caruth; 21 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one sister, Gen Ott; many nieces and nephews; and friends she made over the years. A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 8, at St. Mary of the Angels Catholic Church, 1915 S. Penrod Lane, in Pinetop. Inurnment will be at Queen of Heaven cemetery in Mesa.
