Wayne Saul went to be with the lord surrounded by loved ones on July 22, 2015 in Cedar Creek, Arizona.
Wayne was born to the late Glen Saul and Mercy Brant on July 27, 1943 in Winnebago, Nebraska. Wayne was a tribal member of the Santee Sioux Nation.
Wayne moved to Oakland, California in 1972. He was a truck driver and traveled around California. Wayne was also a pow wow singer and sang at many pow wows throughout the bay area. Wayne lived in Oakland, California where he met Ona and later moved to the White Mountains Apache Reservation and made Cedar Creek his home for the past 30 years.
Wayne loved to play horse shoes and enjoyed playing in horse shoe tournaments. He would play throughout the reservation and traveled to San Carlos. Wayne was a left handed player and always came out as the winner getting trophies, pull over’s and cash prizes. Wayne loved the outdoors and loved to go cat fishing at Salt River Canyon and Black River. Wayne was always known to be a kind hearted person always thinking of others with a good sense of humor.
Wayne was also a good cook. Some of his favorite recipes were potato soup, fried cat fish, onion rings, fried zucchini sticks and fried mushrooms. Wayne made delicious fried bread, Apache cornbread, pancakes and he always made his own homemade shake and bake mix.
Wayne is survived by his wife: Ona Tenijieth Saul; Daughters: Catherine Saul, Joanna Saul, Charlotte Bush, Charlene George, Sandra Reyes, Meldena Lupe and Laura Melgar; Sons: Wayne Saul Jr., Martin Melgar, Stephen Bush and Schroeder Griggs; 28 Grandchildren and 7 Great-Grandchildren.
