Mount Airy News (Mount Airy NC) Wednesday, April 22, 2015 Mrs. Karen Meyer Barnett, 78, of Mount Airy, NC, passed away Friday, April 17, 2015, at her home. Mrs. Barnett was born August 11, 1936, in Fort Collins, CO, the daughter of the late Ed and Alice Cheatwood Meyer. Mrs. Barnett enjoyed time painting and working in her garden, and also was an accomplished organist and pianist. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Mount Airy. Surviving are her husband of 62 years, Frederick Earl Barnett; daughters and son-in-law, Cheryl and George Whitley of Richmond, VA, Lise Barnett of Charlotte, NC, and god-daughter, Toni Rembold Dooley of Greensboro, NC; her son, Cam Barnett and his fiancee, Linda Langford, of Mount Airy, NC; a daughter-in-law, Sandra Barnett of Mount Airy, NC; two grandchildren, Parke Whitley and Casey Barnett; a sister, Judy Scarborough of Medford, OR; and a brother, Gene Meyer of Wickenburg, AZ. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Barnet was preceded in death by six brothers. A service of celebration will be held Wednesday, April 22, 2015, at 3:00pm at Moody Funeral Chapel in Mount Airy, NC, with the Rev. Griff Gatewood officiating. The family will visit with friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 2:00 until 3:00pm.
