Wickenburg Sun (Wickenburg AZ) Thursday, March 3, 1988, p 2 Youth Dead Following Accidental Shooting at Area Desert Party A 16-year-old Surprise youth died last Tuesday night after a pistol he had brought to a party accidentally discharged a bullet and struck him in the chest. According to reports from the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office, Kevin wood was pronounced dead on arrival at Del Webb Hospital in Sun City following the incident. Sgt. Jay Ellison of the sheriff's public information office said Wood had reportedly brought a .22 caliber handgun to a "desert party" near the intersection of Highways 60 and 74 east of Wickenburg. During the party the pistol jammed when Wood tried to fire it, reports said, and when he threw it to the ground, it discharged, a bullet striking him in the chest. No other injuries were reported in the incident.
