James Kenneth Butler, 71, died Aug. 15, 2015, at home in Alpine after a brief and courageous battle with cancer. His wife of 34 years, Sheila, was at his side.
Ken graduated from Sunnyslope High School, served as a Marine and attended NAU. After moving to Yuma, he owned several businesses including Yuma Sandwich Co. and Sentinel Fire Equipment, as well as working in construction for Tanner Companies.
He was a member of Disabled American Veterans, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Elks and American Legion.
He and Sheila retired to Alpine in 1993 and for the last five years wintered in Sun City.
Ken is survived by his brother, Jack; wife Sheila (Kern); five children, Ginger Butler Harding, Marge Butler, Jay Smith, Dave Smith and Mike Smith; along with seven grandchildren, nieces/nephews and great nieces/nephews; and brother-in-law Cully (Brenda) Kern.
A celebration of life will be held from 3-6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 26, at the VFW in Eagar. In lieu of flowers, donations to VFW Post 8987 Building Fund, PO Box 337, Eagar AZ 85925 are requested.
