Marvin William Duke, 82, passed away at home Aug. 17, 2015. He was born in Phoenix, Arizona on March 10, 1933 to William and Opal Duke.
He joined the United States Coast Guard at age 17, during the Korean War, serving in the Pacific, Hawaii and Florida. While in Florida he attended a dance at the USO and there met his future wife, Grace, who was on vacation from Canada.
After his discharge, Marvin and Grace were married in Toronto, Canada on Sept. 12, 1953. Later sealed in the Mesa Temple. They would have celebrated their 62nd anniversary next month.
In 1980, they moved from Phoenix to Prescott and started their own company, Duke Insulation. After they retired they travelled by RV, taking cruises and enjoying their family.
Marvin and Grace were blessed with three children, John (Lea) Duke of Prescott Valley, Dianne (Kent) Chamberlain of The Woodlands, Texas and Linda (John) Barenz of Prescott; 15 grandchildren; and 32 great grandchildren. Also surviving are two brothers, James Duke of Chino Valley and Don Duke of Albuquerque, New Mexico; and sister Phyllis Zale of Cornville, Arizona.
Visitation will be at 10 a.m. with services at 11 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 24, 2015 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1101 Sandretto Drive, Prescott, Arizona.
