The White Mountain Independent, Show Low, Arizona ~ 09/01/2015 Joyce Lynn “Joy” Riley went to be with the Lord unexpectedly Aug. 26, 2015, in Whiteriver, surrounded by loved ones. She was born June 1, 1960, to the late Eino and Grace Ethelbah. Joy was a loving, humble person. Her children, nieces, nephews and goddaughters were the joy of her life. She had a great sense of humor and would have whoever she was visiting and talking with laughing. She worked for the Whiteriver Restaurant and Hon-Dah Casino Resort as a line and prep cook. Joy became famous for her bananas foster that she prepared for lunch. She represented Hon-Dah in a nationwide commercial and as a result she would help attract tourist to our reservation. She was a God-fearing Christian lady, prayed for her family, friends and relatives. She was a very loving person and will be greatly missed by all her knew her. Joy is survived by her husband, Nathaniel Riley; children Jason Begay, Conrad Tarango and Carlyle Tarango; brother Bradley (Norma) Ethelbah; sisters Loretta (Patrick) Cruz, Glenda Ethelbah, Enola (Dusty) Tenijieth and Josephine Ethelbah; numerous nephews, nieces and extended family; and goddaughters Aiyana (Doodles) Covell of Maryland and Megan Terry. A wake for Joy will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 1, in Rainbow City. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 2, at the Open Bible Lutheran Church in Whiteriver. Interment will follow at Golden Gorge Cemetery. Silver Creek Mortuary of Whiteriver handled arrangements.
