JONES, Robert (Bob)


The Verde Independent, Cottonwood, Arizona Saturday, July 11, 2015 Robert "Bob" Jones passed away on June 27, 2015 in Cottonwood, AZ. He was 83 years old. Bob was born on June 1, 1932 in Fairfield, AL to Earnie and Wilda Collum Jones. Bob served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict and later had a career in sales and public relations for the aerospace industry, working for both JetAir and AreoJet General. Bob loved being outdoors, traveling and camping. He divided his time between Hawaii and the main .land and was an Aloha Advocate. He had journeyed to Kahoolawe Island in Hawaii four times in 1982 and 1984. He enjoyed playing ping pong and golf; watching and listing to birds and taking time to enjoy the flowers. Among his many lifetime experiences Bob spent a year in 1980 living in the Navajo Nation with his nephew Steve Jones and had the opportunity to explore the forests around Alpine with his good friend David Lavender. Bob was a Ping Pong Champion, a 'perspective adjustor' and the author of countless 'chicken crossing the road' jokes. He loved to laugh and was an advisor to the Laffathon and The Freedom to Laugh Coalition, sharing his joy and positive attitude with the world around him. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Earnie and Wilda; and his daughter Kelly Jones. He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Bonnie of Cottonwood; his daughter Shannon Jones of Phoenix, AZ; his nephew Steve (Elisa) Jones of Honolulu, HI; his nieces, Patti (Steve) Jones-Bower of Juneau, AK and Teena (Steve) Newman of GA. A celebration of Bob's life was held on Saturday, July 11, 2015. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in his name may be made to PBS or to the food bank of your choice.
