Bakersfield Californian (Bakersfield CA) Tuesday, September 11, 1990 Sabrey Collins Botkin By request there will be cremation and no services. Sabrey, 90, passed away September 6 in a Bakersfield Hospital after a lengthy illness. She was born November 11, 1900 in Briscoe County Texas, one of five daughters with a mother determined her daughters pursue an education. In 1919 Sabrey graduated from Tempe Normal School. In 1923 she married Claude E. Botkin in Superior, Arizona where she taught school for 5 years. Moved to California in 1924, settling in Arvin in 1936. She taught school in California for 19 years. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1982. She is survived by many nieces and nephews. Sabrey was a charter member of the Arvin Womens Club. Awarded a life membership for her services to the club and community. President of The Womens Club. A member of the Cherokee National Historical Society, Life member of Save the Redwood League; member of the Sierra Club since 1966; volunteer of American Cancer Society for 20 years; served on the Ration Board; Inspector of Election Board for 20 years. Sabrey has a special interest in the Arvin Women's Club, Ellen Kovacevich Permanent Scholarship Fund. She made the first donation to the fund and continued to support it. Memorials may be made to the Fund in her honor, send to the Arvin Women's Club, PO Box 577, Arvin, CA 93203.
