The White Mountain Independent, Show Low, Arizona ~ 09/08/2015 Evaristo Silva Jr., 102, died Monday, Aug. 31, 2015, in Show Low. He was born March 28, 1913, in Springerville, the son of Evaristo Silva Sr. and Beneranda Baca Silva. Upon completion of high school, Evaristo’s first employment was as a WPA (CCC) worker. He then went on to work as a copper miner and in road construction. His other employment included working at the McNary Sawmill, logging, custodian and the Forest Service. Evaristo and his wife, Lucy, established the first commercial laundry in Springerville, and he retired from ADOT as a motor vehicle inspector after 15 years. He was also very involved in his church at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Springerville. His favorite things were to travel with his family and visit family and friends. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Arizona Alzheimer’s Association or to a charity of your choice. Evaristo is survived by his wife, Lucy B. Silva; sons Ramon (Gladys) Silva, David (Geri) Silva and Dennis (Claudia) Silva; daughter Sister Carmen SND de Namur; and 13 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and 13 great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Sylvia, son Robert and grandson Ramon Joseph. A funeral mass was held Saturday, Sept. 5, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church of Springerville.
