Silver Creek Mortuary, Taylor, Arizona May A. Loas May 21, 1928 ~ September 14, 2015 May A. Loas went to be with the Lord on September 14, 2015 peacefully at home. She was born May 21, 1928 to Chester and Rose. May retired from civil service work at the age of 72. After retirement she stayed home and enjoyed spending time with her family. She was known as “grandma” to many young and old. She gladly accepted each person as they were. Her home was always opened to everybody that knocked on her door for shelter, food and prayer. She was one of the pioneers that spread the gospel of Jesus Christ on the Fort Apache Reservation in the 1930’s when she herself was converted to Christianity at a young age. She continued on her Christian journey until her death. In her younger years, May was a good seamstress; she made clothing, camp dresses and did altering. She also weaved Apache baskets. She loved traveling to the Indian Tribal Fair and Rodeos to watch her grandchildren participate. She traveled to Sacaton, Sells, Casa Grande, The Navajo Nation, Shiprock and Farmington just to name a few. She herself was a three time consecutive “Fry Bread Contest” winner; she was awarded Pendleton blankets at the Navajo Nation Fail. May’s favorite past time was watching WWE at her granddaughters house and cheering and cheering on the Phoenix Suns at her sons. Traveling with her family and friends to pick acorns was always the highlight of her summer season. Her family will miss her dearly as she was the piller of her family. The family would like to extend a heart warm thank you to all the people who stopped by and visited her, also the staff at Whiteriver Indian Health Services, Hospice Compassus and Haven of Lakeside who cared for our mother. May is survived by her husband: Wesley; daughters: Mary Ellen (Garren) Manuel of Sacaton, AZ, Jennifer Clark and April (Calvin) Boni; sons: Keith (Eugenia) Loas and Richard (Donna) Loas; sisters: Irene Billy and Emily Antonio; 48 grandchildren, 32 great- grandchildren and 8 great-great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by sons: Marvin Paxson and Marlin Baylish; daughters: Dena Paxson Bead and Baby Girl Paxson; grandchildren: Darlene Bead, Gabriel Paxson, Joshua Keeswood and Baby Boy Keefer. Her wake will be held Friday, September 18, 2015 at 10:00am at 521 SW Street Canyon Day, AZ. Her funeral will be held Saturday, September 19, 2015 at 1:00pm at the Whiteriver Assembly of God Church. Interment will follow at Canyon Day Cemetery.
