Edward Cornelissens, 83, of Chandler, Arizona and formerly of West Des Moines, IA passed away peacefully on August 24, 2015 at his home after an extended illness.
Ed was born August 14, 1932 in Wisconsin to Edward and Dorothy. He moved to St. Paul, MN where he met and married his first love, Lorraine. After graduating from the University of Minn. they moved their growing family to West Des Moines, IA where they raised five children.
Ed built a successful career with Farm Bureau Ins. and enjoyed spending time with family and friends, playing cards, listening to music, volunteering at his local parish, and traveling. He also enjoyed his hobbies of photography and wood carving.
After retiring to Sun Lakes, AZ, his beloved Lorraine passed away. He was blessed to find his second love with his wife, Pam, with whom he enjoyed life until his passing. Ed was a beloved son, husband, father, grandfather and friend, whose faith carried him through many challenges and was an inspiration to many. He will be greatly missed by those whose lives he touched.
He is survived by his wife, Pam, children: Tom (CeCe) Cornelissens of New Braunsfeld, TX, Lynn (Bernard) Leon of Gilbert, AZ, and Mary (Perry) Cross and Kim (Mark) Schubert, both of Des Moines, IA, step-daughters Ann Myers and Danielle Smith of Chandler, AZ and 14 grandchildren, 2 step grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, Lorraine, and daughters, Annette and Julie.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 30, 2015 from 1:00 to 4:00pm with Rosary recited at 3:00pm at Queen of Heaven Catholic Church, 1730 W. Guadalupe Rd., Mesa, AZ with burial to follow at Queen of Heaven Cemetery, Mesa, AZ. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to St. Vincent DePaul Society (www.stvincentdepaul.net).
