Mavis Nelson passed away on Friday, Sept. 11, 2015 at the age of 86. Mavis was born May 21, 1929 in Claremont, New Hampshire, although she lived her first 20 years in Windsor, Vermont.
She attended college at Northampton Commercial College in Northampton, Massachusetts. With her beloved husband and best friend, Arthur Nelson, they moved to Nova Scotia for two years and then spent over 50 years in upstate New York.
Once she moved here to Prescott, she became enamored with the beauty of the dells, Granite Mountain and the billowy white clouds. No matter where she lived, however, she considered herself a true Vermonter.
Having been a homemaker most of her adult life, her family brought her the most joy. She was a proud member of the Prescott United Methodist Church and the Yavapai Hills Garden Club.
She is survived by her two daughters Carolyn (Nelson) Nickson of Saugus, California and Marty Nelson of Prescott; her son Arthur Nelson Jr. of Prescott Valley; her sister-in-law Sara Loos of Rochester, New York; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Donations may be made in her honor to the West Yavapai Guidance Clinic or the Prescott United Methodist Church.
A memorial service for Mavis will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 19, 2015 at the Prescott United Methodist Church at 505 E. Gurley St. in Prescott.
Funeral services were entrusted to Wakelin Family Funeral Homes. Please visit www.ruffnerwakelin.com to view and sign Mavis' guestbook.
