Vernon J. Leveque
After a brave 15-year battle with cancer, Vern passed away peacefully on July 27, 2015, at home surrounded by his loving wife and friends.
He was born on March 5, 1930 in Portland, Oregon, to Marcel and Evelyn Leveque.
He is preceded in death by his parents; brother Bill Leveque; and nephew Russel Gilbert.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Nicky; and three stepsons, Scot Oja (Mary), Douglas Oja (Cindy) and Dean Oja (Diane); three grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.
Upon completion of high school, Vern went to work for Armour Meat Company. Fifty-two years later, he retired with the Golden Handshake. After retirement in 1983, he and Nicky traveled extensively in their RV. Their travels took them through the United States, Mexico and Canada, finally settling in Arizona.
Vern was an avid bowler and golfer.
He bowled a 300 game in Portland at Interstate Lanes in 1980 and had a "Hole in One" in 1992 at Cocapah Bend Golf Course in Yuma, Arizona.
He was an extraordinary man. A kind and gentle person who enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
He will be missed but not forgotten until meeting again.
A celebration of Vern's life will be at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 10, 2015 in the Social Hall at the Villages at Lynx Creek.
