A funeral ceremony will be at 9:30 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 10, 2015, at St. Catherine Laboure Catholic Church, 2062 Highway 89, Chino Valley, Arizona. Lunch will follow from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 21245 N. Hackarnore Lane, Paulden, Arizona. Anyone who has fond memories of Russ is more than welcome to come. Russ was born Feb. 24, 1951 in Carter Lake, Iowa. He spent most of his life in the Omaha, Nebraska area before moving his family to Arizona and semi-retiring in order to dedicate more time to his children. More than anything, Russ loved his kids. He is survived by his beautiful wife, Loan; his beloved daughters, Melissa and Heather; his adorable son, Donovan; his wonderful son-in-law, Christopher; and his precious granddaughter, Paula. Russ enjoyed being involved with youth sports, road trips with great music, appreciating sunsets, and watching movies with his kids (even romantic comedies if that is what his daughters wanted). He taught his children the value of saving money in true Midwestern fashion, how to get the rebound in basketball despite not being the tallest on the team and how to push through physical challenges to finish every race. Most of all, he taught them how to love and to help others. Russ could talk to anyone and everyone about anything and everything, a trait both admired and lovingly tolerated by his children. He will be missed deeply by his children, as he was truly their #1 fan. So, Big "R," Rusty, Little Father ... we miss you and love you so very much. You are gone too soon, but we thank the Lord we knew you at all. Chino Valley Funeral Home assisted the family. Information provided by survivors.
