Hassayampa Miner (Wickenburg AZ) Friday, June 9, 1916, p 4:4 Ed Kirkland, Ex-Treasurer Of Arizona, Dead Phoenix, Ariz., June 8--Word has been received here of the death at St. Louis of E. E. Kirkland, former territorial treasurer of Arizona. Death was caused by cancer of the liver, from which he had been a sufferer for several years. Mr. Kirkland had been a resident of Arizona for nearly forty years. He started in business in a small way at the Vulture mine southwest of Wickenburg, where he conducted a store. Later he engaged in the cattle business in the Kirkland valley. He was appointed territorial treasurer by Governor Brodie, and held the office through that administration and also under those of Governor Kibbey and Sloan. He recently left Phoenix for Excelsior Springs, Mo., but his condition became so serious en route that he was taken to St. Louis, where his death occurred.
