Monaver von der Heydt, a resident of Eugene, Oregon for the past three years, passed away at Sheldon Park Memory Care on Oct. 6, 2015. She was 93.
Monaver was born on Aug. 4, 1922, in Poughkeepsie, New York, and adopted by Ludmila and George Bechtold.
Monaver graduated from Brooklyn Friend's School and earned her nursing degree from Cornell University's New York Hospital, School of Nursing. Her love of children led to her work as a pediatric nurse at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City.
She had a 30-year hiatus while raising her children before returning to work, this time as a supervising psychiatric nurse at Camelback Hospital in Phoenix, Arizona.
Monaver married Bruce von der Heydt on Oct. 23, 1948, settling first in Palmerton, Pennsylvania, where they started their family with the birth of their first son, Keith. Over the years, the family enjoyed living in several locales in Oho, New York, Nevada and Arizona. Three more children - son Kevin, daughter Lisa and daughter Lori - made the family complete.
Monaver and Bruce retired in 1989, and moved to Prescott, Arizona, where they built their dream home. They were both devout Baha'is. Monaver volunteered at the Prescott Chamber of Commerce and was active on the Yavapai Symphony Association Board.
After her husband, Bruce, passed in April 2012, Monaver moved to Eugene, Oregon to be closer to her two daughters and grandchildren.
Monaver is survived by her four loving children, Keith, Kevin, Lisa and Lori; and her four grandchildren, Max and Molly von der Heydt, and Aaron and Kalli Schoening.
Monaver was laid to rest at the Eugene Masonic Cemetery on Friday, Oct. 9, 2015. Memorial contributions may be made to the Baha'is of Prescott, Arizona or the Yavapai Symphony Association.
