DUNBAR, Gerald (Jerry) Edwin


The Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona, Thursday, October 29, 2015 Gerald (Jerry) Edwin Dunbar was born Feb. 5, 1933, to Robert Edwin and Clista Mae Dunbar in Chandler, Arizona. He went to grade school in Prescott, roaming the hills behind the Pine Cone Inn, which his father owned. His family moved to Ash Fork, where he graduated from high school. He graduated from the University of Arizona with a degree in Business Administration. He then went into the Air Force as an officer. He loved flying and became a Jet Pilot Instructor. Feb. 23, 1958, he served a part-time Mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, in West Oklahoma. His father asked him to come back and run Dunbar Stone in 1960, where he worked until the age of 82. He accomplished several very impressive large stone jobs, including the Clark County Government Building in Las Vegas, the Arizona Center in Phoenix, and shipped stone to Hawaii, Australia and Guam. Jerry served on the Board of Directors for American Savings Life Insurance Co. and in several positions for the LDS Church. It gave him great joy when he could serve others. He married his sweetheart Sept. 13, 1962, and has been happily married for 53 years. He passed away peacefully at home on Oct. 25, 2015, after a courageous battle with cancer. Jerry is survived by his wife, Frances Dunbar; and 11 children, Forrest Dunbar, Will Dunbar, Julie Dunbar Grasso, Marcie (Kim) Andrus, Lori Carroll, Stephanie (Jeramie) Lage, Cynthia Dunbar, Lisa (Travis) Bates, Leslie (Walt ) Dunbar, Laurel (Darren) Wood, Natalie (A.J.) Latham; 31 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; and his younger brother, Warren Dunbar. Funeral services will be on Saturday, Oct. 31, 2015, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 441 West Perkinsville Road, Chino Valley, Arizona. Visitation will be at 9 a.m. with services at 10 a.m. and burial to follow at the Chino Valley Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made at any National Bank of Arizona location under the name of Jerry Dunbar to help offset the cost of medical expenses and to help the community.
