Roy Jim Long Jr., a long-time resident of Chino Valley, died peacefully in his home on Oct. 31, 2015. He was 85.
He was born to Roy and Ora Long on Aug. 3, 1930 in Holliday, Texas. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Ardella, Imogene and Shirley.
He and his now deceased wife of 33 years (Carol) moved to Chino Valley with their children, Gary, Mark, Sheryl, Laura and Esther in June 1974, and went on to have 13 grandchildren including Joshua, Christopher, Denise, Sandy, Brenda, Kayla, Stefan, Chase, Cece, Justin, Jennifer, Carter, Reece and great grandchildren as well.
There were many chapters in Roy's life. He was a gymnast, was in the Navy in 1950, was Mr. Arizona in 1957 and 1958, was an insurance salesman, a jeweler, a cowboy, a biker and one hell of a family man-just to name a few.
He loved going to any and all garage sales and swap meets, going for coffee in the morning and riding his Harley. He rode his Harley for the last time on his 78th birthday. He loved cooking up a big ol' pot of something on Sundays, when people came around. Everyone was welcome at Roy's house and he always took the time to visit and enjoyed the company.
His last party has been planned for noon on Sunday, Nov. 8, 2015 at his home in Chino Valley.
Farewell Roy, we will miss you very much.
P.S. Dear Grampa, You were my hero, my mentor, my teacher, you were a lover of life and a peacemaker. I am proud of the fact that I am your grandson. Love, Chris.
