Charles Bartolomeo, 61, of Prescott, Arizona, passed away at the Good Samaritan, Prescott Valley, on Oct. 10, 2015. Charles was born March 2, 1954, to Frank and Mildred Bartolomeo and grew up in Bayonne and Union, New Jersey. He pursued a degree in economics at Arizona State University and then worked as a Merchandiser in the wine and spirits industry in Phoenix and at Alliance Beverage in Phoenix for about 20 years.
In 1999, after enjoying a second home in Prescott for five years, he and his wife Shelley moved to Prescott where Charles worked for nine years at the Home Depot in merchandising and the Paint Dept. until the onset of his illness.
Charles greatly enjoyed hiking with his wife, was good at creating home improvement projects, and landscape design. When he was diagnosed at 54 with early onset Alzheimer's disease, they didn't let that define him or slow him down. With accommodations, they still hiked Thumb Butte four times a week, went to their favorite restaurants, traveled across the country by train and car, enjoyed musical theater and stayed social with sister Rosemary, family and friends. He lived life to the fullest.
Charles is survived by his loving wife Shelley (Larson) of 34 years; sister Rosemary Bartolomeo of Prescott; mother-in-law Donna Larson of Washington; sister-in-law Laura (David) Stuessy of Wisconsin; sister-in-law Meri Jaklitsch of Washington; nieces Victoria Whitish, Sarah Stuessy and Yvette Dennis; nephews Matthew (Hattie) Stuessy and Nicholas Stuessy; and great-nieces Kaitlin and Charlotte. He was preceded in death by his parents; father-in-law Myron Larson; brother-in-law John Larson; and nephew/godson Beau Jaklitsch.
We would like to thank Good Samaritan Special Care Unit in Prescott Valley for their great care at the end of Charles' life. Because of the professional and loving care he received, he was able to enjoy music, dance, good food, joke around, and maintain his quality of life until the very end.
A private celebration of life will be on Saturday, Nov. 14, 2015, at Charles and Shelley's home in Prescott. Memorial donations in his memory should be made to the Alzheimer's Association-Desert Southwest Chapter.
