Warren G McCoy, 94 passed away at Polidori House, in the early
evening of September 3, 2015. Warren was born on October 27, 1920 in
Jerusalem, Arkansas to Luther and Laura McCoy.
He grew up in Russellville and Heber Springs Arkansas and made it
through one and a half years of college before being called to
active duty with the Arkansas National Guard in early 1941. Warren
was sent to Dutch Harbor Alaska as part of a coastal artillery crew
where in December 1941 he engaged in combat against aircraft of the
Japanese Navy.
In early 1943 Warren was assigned to Aviation Cadet School and upon
graduation was commissioned a 2nd Lt. in the Army Air Corps. He
completed further training as a B-17 Bomber Pilot and during 1944
flew 36 missions in the European Theatre of Operations including
missions on D-Day and to Berlin.
After the war, Warren met and married Christine Dorset and together
they raised three children (two sons and one daughter). They enjoyed
60 fun filled years as husband and wife. After flying for a while
with various companies he went to work for the FAA in 1957, and
remained there until his retirement in 1982.
Warren and Christine moved to Lake Havasu in 2005 to be closer to
family. He was a member of the Quiet Birdmen.
Warren is preceded in death by his wife Christine, and his oldest
son Warren Dorset McCoy. He is survived by his second son James
“Kim” McCoy of Lake Havasu City, AZ and his daughter Susannah Arnim
of Meridian ID, as well as numerous grandchildren and great-
grandchildren. He will be missed by all who knew him.
