On Dec. 8th, 2015 Rodney Stephen Welz, 73, went to be with his
Heavenly Father. Rodney was born July 29, 1942, and grew up on
Catalina Island. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and diving for
abalone.
Following a tour in Vietnam through the end of 1967 and most of
1968, Rodney was honorably discharged from the Army as Sgt. Welz,
aka “Rotten”.
He proudly served his community and state for the Monrovia Police
Department, in Monrovia, Calif. His promising career was ended
abruptly by a horrific on duty accident Nov. 29, 1973.
Shortly thereafter Rodney moved to Lake Havasu City, with his wife
and son.
Wearing his signature bib overalls and driving his rusty old blue
1978 Ford Bronco, lovingly named “The Blue Flu”, he spent the better
part of the next 35 years selflessly giving up his time wherever he
was asked.
He is survived by his loving wife and best friend, Peggy; his son
Donald; daughter in law, Joanne, and many long time close friends.
His immediate family and friends hope you will join them in a
celebration of life following a brief ceremony with military honors
on Sunday, Dec. 20, at the Elks lodge in Lake Havasu City beginning
at 11 a.m.
