John Townsend Herrmann, 88, passed away Dec. 4, 2015 with his family at his side.
He was born in White Plains, New York on July 8, 1927 to John Herrmann and Evelyn Boyce Herrmann. He graduated from White Plains High School and served in the U.S. Navy aboard the aircraft carrier, U.S.S. Commencement Bay.
He resettled in West Covina, California in 1953 and married the love of his life, Joyce. He entered the insurance business and headed the Marine and Casualty Department of
Chubb & Son Insurance, Inc., in Los Angeles.
He moved to Prescott in 1970, and purchased Bell Insurance with a partner in 1971 and renamed the company Byers & Herrmann Insurance. During his business years in Prescott, John was involved in Kiwanis, Ducks Unlimited and many other local activities.
John retired in 1987 and he and Joyce fulfilled one of their dreams, traveling through the U.K., New Zealand, South Africa and Europe. He and Joyce moved to Patagonia, Arizona in 1995, where he continued to enjoy his retirement until moving back to Prescott in 2012, to be near his family, his greatest joy.
John is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Joyce; his two daughters, Laurel Herrmann (Nick Await) and Holly Pierce (Billy). He has three granddaughters, Jill (Gloria), Beth (Andy) and Melanie; and three great granddaughters.
John was a kind and generous man and believed in The Golden Rule, which he practiced everyday. He was a wonderful husband and father and will be greatly missed.
The family plans a private service per John's wishes. A celebration of life will take place at a later date.
