Contracts Cold Which Causes Death
(From Friday's Daily)
Yesterday afternoon, at 3:30 o'clock, after an illness dating back only to February 10, death relieved Owen John Thomas of his suffering.
Deceased was born in the state of New York, June 5, 1872, and was in the zenith of manhood when stricken with pneumonia. When convalescent he was attacked with Bright's disease and dropsy, Tuesday morning, since when the attending physicians have held out no hopes for recovery.
Since his arrival here August 26, 1902, deceased has taken an active interest in all the affairs of the city, and was considered among its most enterprising and active young men. He was a member of the local Elks minstrel show and it is said that it was while taking part in rehearsals he contracted a cold which eventually led to the other complications that resulted in his death. He was an active member of the O.K. Hose company, of the volunteer fire department, and of the Modern Woodsmen of America.
Besides his wife, to whom he was married a year and one week ago, he leaves surviving him, his father and mother, John O. and Elizabeth Thomas, residing in New York, and two brothers and four sisters. He was the eldest son of the family. One of his brothers, J. C. Thomas, arrived here only yesterday from Needles, Cal., just a few hours before his death.
His remains were taken in charge by the Ruffner undertaking establishment. The funeral will take place Saturday afternoon.
