Sudden Death Of Mrs. Monroe Shocks Many Friends
(From Tuesday's Daily)
Mrs. S. D. Monroe was found dead in her home on North Virginia street last night about 10 o'clock by Mr. and Mrs. A. D. Adams, under rather exceptional circumstances, and which was due tot he anxiety of the latter in not receiving answers to their repeated calls over the telephone. During the early part of the afternoon they made frequent calls for the deceased, but not receiving any answer, concluded to go in person to the home.
Arriving there they found the doors locked, when Mr. Adams concluded to enter through the window, which he did by breaking the panes of glass. The body of Mrs. Monroe was found dead in one of the rooms in the rear of the residence, and there is every belief that appoplexy was the fatal ailment. Medical assistance was summoned, but life had been extinct for several hours.
In speaking of the sad occasion, Mr. Adams stated last night after he made the discovery, that it had been the custom of himself and his wife to daily call up Mrs. Monroe and it had been seldom that a call was unheeded. Acting on the belief that the deceased was probably ill, they concluded to go to the home and see for themselves with the above results.
Mrs. Monroe was a widow, and had resided alone in that part of the house she had occupied for many years renting the other portion. She was one of the earliest of pioneer residents and also one of the most lovable women. Kind and generous with a mild manner, her loss will be regretted by all.
She leaves two sons residing on the Verde, one of whom but a few days ago was a visitor to the city. Her health was excellent, and the shock of her untimely end will be received with sorrow by her many friends and acquaintances throughout the county.
Funeral arrangements will be announced after relatives reach the city from the Verde valley.
Transcriber's note: Burial is at the Citizens Cemetery in Prescott, Arizona.
