PORTENIER, Walter Douglas

The White Mountain Independent, Show Low, Arizona ~ 12/22/2015 Walter Douglas Portenier, 87, died Dec. 17, 2015, in Phoenix. He was born May 8, 1928, in Severance, Kan., to Walter and Pearl Portenier and came to Glendale in June 1944. Walter was employed as a mechanic until he moved to Holbrook in April 1961, where he opened a Western Auto Associate store. He graduated from Glendale High School in 1946 and married Madonna Lindsey of Bisbee in 1949. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Madonna of Holbrook; sons Keith of Holbrook, Daniel of Scottsdale and Hungary; sister Geneva Grosstick of Texas; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, Timothy, who went to be with the Lord in 2002. Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 23, at the Holbrook Cemetery.
