Velma "Jean" Morrison Nebel, 75, passed away peacefully from this world on Dec. 19, 2015, in Prescott, Arizona. Jean was born on April 30, 1940, in Tulare, California, the daughter of Dewey and Dortha Morrison.
She is survived by her husband Paul; sons, Tim (Pam) and Brian (Denise); brothers, Tom Morrison and David Morrison (Betty); sister Joy Gifford (Andy); granddaughter Mia; grandson Wes; and a large extended family. She will be greatly missed by all of her family and friends.
Jean grew up in Northern and Central California. She graduated from Strathmore High School in the San Joaquin Valley, attended College of the Sequoias (Visalia) and received her Bachelors of Arts degree in primary education from San Francisco State University. She taught in elementary schools, and was heavily involved in PTA activities as president while her children were growing up.
Jean met her future husband Paul during the Christmas holidays of 1961 while both of them were working in Sequoia National Park during a two-week college break. They were married in Strathmore, California, on June 27, 1964. During Paul's 34-year career with Procter & Gamble, the couple resided in a variety of locations including Sacramento, California; Cincinnati, Ohio; Cupertino, California; and New Orleans, Louisiana. Jean and Paul moved from New Orleans to Prescott upon his retirement in 2000.
She was an avid traveler, and upon moving to Prescott, the couple was able to travel the country and the world. Jean's other hobbies included reading and quilting. She always said that it was her mission to cover the earth with quilts and blankets, as those who received her gifts can attest to. But when all was said and done, it was the welfare of her family that was her greatest priority!
In her final days, Jean was attended to by the wonderful folks of Granite Mountain Home Care and Hospice.
Her final services were entrusted to Heritage Memory Mortuary of Prescott.
A celebration of Jean's life is scheduled to be in July 2016, at her mother's family's annual reunion.
