Daniel James Fearn died at his home on Jan. 4, 2016, due to the ramifications of bladder cancer.
Dan was born in February 1937, in Manhattan. He grew up in New York and New England, earned Ivy League degrees on scholarships, satisfied his military requirement, was inducted into Mensa and earned his CPA license.
In his career, Dan held high-level management roles in a major international company, which brought him and his family to live in six different countries in Europe and Asia. He retired to Prescott in 1997, where he was involved in community, charitable and educational activities.
Dan identified closely with secular humanism, social democracy and intellectually rigorous skepticism, all of which focus on the long view for humanity. His major concern for civilization's future was the impacts of rampant overpopulation, and Dan donated several million dollars to organizations advocating for population control.
Dan was an expert in history, travelled to 75 countries, was a citizen of the world and emphasized the comedic aspects of the human condition.
In his own words, he had an extremely good life, and was grateful for it.
He is survived by Kirsten, his wife of 56 years; and children Hilary (Texas), Erik (Malaysia), Eva (New York) and Ian (New York); as well as six grandchildren; and family and friends in the U.S., UK, Denmark and elsewhere. He is loved and missed.
He donated his body to medical research.
