HALLIGAN, James

Weekly Journal Miner, Prescott, Arizona Territory Wednesday, November 8, 1911, page 8, column 5 James Halligan Succumbs To Illness (From Tuesday's Daily) James Halligan for nearly a third of a century a miner of this county, passed away late Saturday night at his cabin in Slaughter House Gulch, near Lynx Creek, after an illness of less than four days. His affliction was intestinal troubles, and he was unable to receive medical attention until a few hours before his death, being alone and his friends not knowing of his illness. Mr. Halligan was an industrious man and combined those traits of generous fellowship that made many friends. He was operating mines in that district, and recently informed friends that he was better pleased with the showing than at any time since he secured the property. He was a native of Ireland and arrived on the Pacific coast in 1858, where he accumulated a handsome fortune in placer mines along Frazier river. He later went to Nevada and had a location on the Comstock vein, near Gold Hill, which he lost through litigation. He drifted to the Panamint range afterward, and after several years in mining and prospecting came to Mohave county, finally locating in this county in 1878. He was 74 years old and his only known relative residing in this country is a brother of Philadelphia. His body will be brought to Prescott today for interment. -------------------------------------- Tombstone Epitaph, Tombstone, Arizona Territory Sunday, November 19, 1911, page 2, column 3 Territorial Items of Interest - James Halligan, who had followed mining for about 30 years, died at his cabin in Slaughter House Gulch, near Prescott, November 4th of bowel trouble, after a sickness of less than a week.
