Wickenburg Sun (Wickenburg AZ) Friday, March 16, 1951 Final Rites For Vernon Knight To Be In Phoenix Former Resident Here Met Accidental Death Funeral services for Vernon Knight, age 44, and a former resident of the Wickenburg community, were to be held at 11:30 a.m., today (Friday) at the A. L. Moore and Sons Funeral Home in Phoenix. Mr. Knight lost his life early Wednesday morning when the car in which he was seated was struck by the Santa Fe Railway's westbound El Capitan a few miles west of Kingman. News of his death was immediately conveyed to his former wife, Mrs. Lena Knight, who resides here, by railroad and police officials. A native of Cincinnati, Mr. Knight came to Arizona first in 1931 as a guest at Wickenburg's Monte Vista Ranch. He returned in 1935 and bought land north of the city where he built a home which is today a portion of Slash Bar K Ranch. Charter Rotarian While a resident of Wickenburg, he helped to organize the Rotary Club and was its third president. He also served one term as "Boss" of the Round-Up Club. He left here in 1942 to enter the Air Force and was released from service in 1946 with the rank of Major. Survivors At the time of his death he was living in Phoenix with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Knight, the former a prominent resident of the capital city. In addition to his parents, he is survived by a daughter, Beryl, a student at Stanford, and a son Vernon Jr., who is studying at Columbia University.
