Irene Dirsa-McDonald left us on Jan. 4, 2016. Irene was born to Walter Dirsa and Bronislava (Naruserricia) Dirsa on Jan. 18, 1935 in Bridgeport Connecticut.

She attended St. Vincent's Nursing School and trained as a surgical nurse at the University of Michigan. She then began her career as an operating room nurse at St. Vincent's. She later managed the surgical equipment division at St. Vincent's Medical Center. She took enormous pride in her Nursing career and the fact that several family members eventually joined her as nurses. She traveled extensively with European tours, cruises and Caribbean adventures, and took great joy in her pets, Maximillian, Alex, Kit-Kat, Ole Yeller and Rusty.

Irene married Bill McDonald in 1992. After retiring in 1997, they moved to Prescott, in the mountains of Northern Arizona, with the intention of exploring the west for a few years and then returning to Connecticut. Instead, the charms of small city life in an Old West town and a wonderful climate with bright sunshine most days led them to settle in Arizona. They spent 18 years taking amazing trips all over the west, alone and with extended family. They actively involved themselves in politics and the Prescott Astronomy Club.

Irene will be sorely missed by her loving husband Bill; remaining sisters, Isabel (Betty) Arquitte, Lillian Fox and family, Virginia Fenglar and family; brother Anthony Dirsa, wife Caroline and family; nieces Dawn Ann Spictzler and family, Christine Holmwood and family, Marianne Cone and family, Sheryl Jackisch and family, Linda Vulovic and family; Bill's daughters, Kathy Bachmann, Lara Flint, and Barbara McDonald, and their children, Patrick Raymond, Nicholas, Madeline and Daniel Bachmann, and Liam Flint.

She was predeceased by her brother George Dirsa; and sisters Aldona Van Campen, Adele Schweitzer, Rita Arquitte and Anna Spictzler. Prior to her passing, she lost several individuals that were very special to her - niece Kathy Spictzler and nephew Michael Spictzler. She was a devoted aunt to several generations of nieces, nephews and their families.

A family gathering will be in the spring. In lieu of flowers, contributions to St. Vincent's College scholarship fund would be welcome.
