Ruth Courtney was born Nov. 6, 1919, in Ida Grove, Iowa, to Arthur and Ethel Grouell. She went to be with her beloved husband Mike on Jan. 14, 2016.

She is survived by her sister Persis Coalter, 99 years young , and her extended family. Ruth is also survived by her daughter Ruth Ann Courtney; son and daughter-in-law , R.J. and Tammy Courtney; eight grandchildren , Samantha and Danielle (R.J. and Tammy’s wonderful daughters), Michelle, Matt, Marc , Derek, Caleb and Chelsea (Ruth Ann’s wonderful children); three “great” grandsons, Jared (Michelle and Jess Gentner), Riot (Samantha Courtney) and Gavin (Matt and Danielle Ullinger); two very special people, Cynthia Barnes (adopted daughter) and Phyllis Papin (best friend).

Ruth will be missed and remembered by many dear friends that she loved and cherished, too many of you to list here. You all know who you are, and her family wants you to know how much those relationships and the support you gave Mother meant to us.

We can’t thank you enough. As most of you who were closest to Mother know, she did not want any service at the time of her passing, In her words, a service would be, “too much fuss and bother – don’t want family and friends inconvenienced and cryin’ over me.”

Remember her on happy terms, her request. She lived, she loved, she laughed, she fished, she taught, nursed, nurtured, inspired, and then she died.

We will miss her.
