Brian Lee Burdick, 60, passed away peacefully from this life into the next Sunday, Jan. 24, 2016, after a year-long battle with pancreatic cancer.

He was born to Russell Howard and Nathel Brown Burdick in Tucson and moved to St. Johns when he was 2 years old.

Brian grew to a tall 6 foot 5 inches so everyone in the family looked up to him. He played on the St. Johns High School basketball team and helped to win the 1973 2A State Championship.

After serving an LDS mission in Los Angeles California (1974-1976), he graduated from Brigham Young University with a bachelor’s of science in psychology. It was there he met his future wife, Lynette Casey, who won him over by cooking for him and his roommates.

Brian and Lynette were married in the Mesa Temple Aug. 23, 1979. Later, they settled in St. Johns, where Brian took a job with the State of Arizona as a caseworker for Adult Protective Services.

After 25 years, Brian retired, but he never stopped working and helping others. He enjoyed building things and working with his hands, but most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family.

Over the years, Brian served as a favorite Sunday school teacher to the youth, as well as adults in Gospel Doctrine. He also served in the Elder’s Quorum presidency and as the Elder’s Quorum president, on the High Council, and finally as the Sunday school president.

Brian is survived by his eternal companion, Lynette Casey Burdick; four children, Melissa (Richard) Hale, Daniel Burdick, Elizabeth (Jason) Moore and Sian (Joshua) Moore; seven grandchildren, Arwen, Jackson, Hunter, Ryland, Afton, Parker and Easton; stepmother Margaret “Peggy” Burdick; nine siblings, Russell (Susan) Burdick Jr., Quinn (Kathy) Burdick, Robert (Totty) Burdick, Maren (John) McCormick, Ann (Tom) Perry, Jeanine (Ken) Legler, Martin (Sue) Burdick, Lynette (Tom) Mulleneaux and Irene (Brandt) Spotten-James; 42 nieces and nephews; and many more great-nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father, who undoubtedly welcomed him home with open arms.

Brian will be remembered for his amazing sense of humor, his willingness to serve others, his silly jokes, his tender heart, and his boisterous laugh. Brian will leave more than a 6-foot 5-inch hole in the hearts of his family, the chasm that remains can only be filled by the grace of our Savior, Jesus Christ. Brian would want us to remember that.

A viewing will be held 6-8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 5, at Burnham Mortuary, St. Johns. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 6, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, St. Johns Stake Center, with visitation one hour prior.

Graveside dedicatory services will follow funeral services at the St. Johns Westside Cemetery.
